Program Description

Graphic Arts 1 is one of two sequential Career Technical Education (CTE) courses offered in the Graphic Design career pathway program in the KHSD.

This course is designed for the exploration of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, emphasizing Fine Art as the basis for Computer Graphics.  Students will express visual creativity hands on and learn to translate and manipulate these ideas in technology.  Major areas will include corporate identity packages, advertising, desktop publishing, layout techniques, pictorial drawing and painting and unique projects that progressively develop their skills. Students will study historical practices in visual communication and their effects on the development of contemporary visual media. This course may not be repeated for credit.  Students who pass, proceed to Graphic Arts 2.

  • Computer literacy, file protocols, software and hardware

  • Learn to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES:

Certificate in Adobe software through Precision Exams. Adobe software is the industry standard for graphic design.

 

 

HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS AVAILABLE:

1 Year 10 Credits

No Pre-Requisite for Graphic Arts 1

 

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:

  • Born and raised in Bakersfield
  • Graduate of East Bakersfield High School
  • Graduate of Bakersfield College
  • Graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena
  • Employed at Warner Bros in the Merchandising division
  • Designed and Art directed merchandise for major bands like Metallica, Paul McCartney, Korn and many more. Designed and art directed merchandise for major theme parks like Disneyland, Disney World, Universal studios and many more. Designed and directed for many TV and movie properties and licensed and private label apparel companies.
  • I paint traditionally in acrylic and some oil paint. I love to draw in pen and ink. And I have over 25 years of experience in Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • I continue to learn about art and the creative process every day.
