Program Description

AVID (ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION)

is a college prep elective that is in its 18th year of implementation at North High. We consist of over 200 college prep students who were selected for the program based on desire, academic potential, economic need (for future college financial support), teacher or counselor recommendation, and an interview.

NHS AVID looks for students who have the desire and potential to attend a 4 year university straight out of high school, but might need a little help to be successful. North High AVID has graduated sixteen classes in the past eighteen years (500+ students) helping students gain acceptance directly to four-year universities.

The goal of the class is to teach students the tools they will need to succeed in both high school and college so that they are able to graduate and go directly into a four-year university.
